Professional ExperienceMs. Derwinski received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 2001. Following graduation, Ms. Derwinski attended DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, and was awarded her Juris Doctor degree in 2004. While studying at DePaul, Ms. Derwinski gained experience working in the Office of the General Counsel at the American Medical Association and in the legal department of a Chicago-based hospital system, and then began clerking at Cook Alex beginning in 2003. Ms. Derwinski joined Cook Alex following graduation from DePaul University College of Law. Ms. Derwinski has experience in U.S. patent prosecution matters, specializing in the areas of biomedical devices and equipment, blood processing and intravenous systems and methods of use, dialysis equipment, blood filters and membranes. Her work also includes patent and trademark litigation, patent validity and infringement analyses, trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement, and intellectual property license and agreement preparation. Ms. Derwinski coauthored the article entitled Deference: The Unanswered Question, in Patent Lawyer Magazine, 2004. She is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago.
