Professional Experience

Mr. McGee (born 1970) studied electrical engineering at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, and received a Bachelor of Science degreein 1993 and a Master of Science degree in 1994. Thereafter, he attended John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, on a full tuition scholarship. At John Marshall, he was a Staff Editor for The John Marshall Law Review and was awarded his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in 1997.

During law school, Mr. McGee clerked at Lockwood, Alex, FitzGibbon & Cummings (a predecessor of the present firm) in Chicago, Illinois, and at Pennie & Edmonds in New York, New York.  After graduation from John Marshall, Mr. McGee joined the firm of Lockwood, Alex, FitzGibbon & Cummings in Chicago, specializing in intellectual property law matters. Mr. McGee has been with the present firm or a predecessor since 1995 (as both law clerk and associate), specializing during that entire time in patent, trademark, and copyright law and related unfair competition and antitrust matters.

Mr. McGee’s practice has included a diverse range of intellectual property law matters. Mr. McGee has experience in patent litigation matters, patent appellate practice, patent validity and infringement analysis, patent prosecution, patent interference practice, license and agreement preparation, trademark clearance and registration, trademark opposition and cancellation practice, trademark litigation, copyright registration and litigation, general client counseling and the like. He presently represents a wide variety of clients, including established and start-up companies in various fields, particularly those in the electronics, multimedia and electronic commerce industries.
