Professional Experience
James Pristelski (born 1943) studied electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1966. He was elected to the honorary engineering societies, Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. Mr. Pristelski was employed as an electronic design engineer at Collins Radio Company (now Rockwell Collins) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1966 to 1970, where he gained experience in both analog and digital circuit design.
Mr. Pristelski attended the School of Law at the University of Iowa, and was awarded his Juris Doctor, with Distinction, in 1972. He then joined the law department of the Square D Company in Park Ridge, Illinois, where he specialized in intellectual property law matters. In 1975, Mr. Pristelski joined the law firm of McWilliams & Mann, and continued his intellectual property law practice. He joined Lockwood, Dewey, Alex & Cummings, a predecessor of the present firm, in 1977. In 1979, Mr. Pristelski joined the Intellectual Property Department of Motorola, Inc. in Schaumburg, Illinois. For the next 22 years, his practice at Motorola encompassed a wide variety of domestic and international intellectual property issues in a state of the art electronics environment. His last position at Motorola was Senior Litigation Counsel.
During his many years of legal practice, Mr. Pristelski has acquired significant experience in domestic and international intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, patent validity and infringement opinions, procuring trademarks and copyrights, licensing, trade secrets, patent interferences, trademark oppositions and cancellations, protection of computer software, importation of gray market goods, intellectual property litigation and counseling.
