Professional ExperienceMr. Roney is a former technology executive with extensive experience developing, marketing, licensing and standardizing technology. In the early 1990s, he was responsible for developing and commercializing Motorola's digital cellular subscriber handsets, which included leading several of Motorola's Corporate R&D groups in the development of digital cellular chipsets and software. He left Motorola in 1994 and founded PrairieComm, Inc. as a fabless semiconductor manufacturer, providing highly integrated chipsets, embedded software, and licensed intellectual property to leading international consumer electronics companies serving the digital wireless communications market. PrairieComm's chips and software have been used in digital wireless handsets sold by Motorola, Samsung, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Siemens and others. In 2000, Mr. Roney was awarded for having one of the fastest growing companies in the United States by Inc. magazine by PrairieComm achieving the 25th position on the Inc. 500. Further, he was runner-up for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year award. After the sale of PrairieComm to Motorola/Freescale Semicondutor, Mr. Roney founded InnoVision Int'l, Inc. as a creative marketing solutions company focusing on the synergies between in-store promotions and sports promotions. InnoVision's customers included PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, MLB teams, and NBA teams. After the sale of InnoVision in 2005, he began working for Cook Alex in the dual role of marketing director and patent agent while attending law school in the evenings at DePaul University College of Law. While in law school, he has received multiple academic awards for being top of his class in subjects covering property, wills, estates, drafting trial and appellate briefs, drafting transactions, and advanced copyrights. He is expected to complete his Juris Doctor degree in December 2008. Throughout his career Mr. Roney has been involved in intellectual property litigation, patent prosecution, patent licensing, patent validity and infringement analyses for various computer, electronics and software technologies. He has negotiated many technology licenses and has represented multiple international consumer electronics companies with the integration of their technology into industry standards.
