Mr. Mehler’s initial post-law school position was with the intellectual property section of the law department of a major corporation, where he gained valuable experience in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition matters. This experience in a large corporate context also exposed him to business issues centering on intellectual property. Subsequently, Mr. Mehler joined a predecessor to the present firm, where he continues to specialize in patent, design patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and unfair competition causes, as well as in law and fact analysis, advising and opinion rendering, agreement formulating and drafting, and in various phases of litigation.

During his many years of specialized experience, Mr. Mehler’s practice has spanned a full range of intellectual property law matters, including patentability, validity and infringement studies and opinions, patent program strategizing and advising, patent drafting, procurement and enforcement, lawsuits and appeals, post-grant activities, oppositions and cancellations, including assisting European local litigation and patent counsel in court proceedings, in oppositions, and before the European Technical Board of Appeal. Another facet of his practice focuses on trademark advising and opinion rendering, proposing strategies for trademark development and procurement of trademark registrations, as well as enforcing marks and defending them. His extensive trademark experience has encompassed policing client trademark positions against infringement and dilution, as well as defending clients’ trademarks in contested proceedings, including oppositions and cancellations in the U.S. and internationally in collaboration with a network of local counsel.

Mr. Mehler has represented clients of diverse sizes and types in a variety of intellectual property areas for clients in fields such as medical devices, agricultural compositions, agricultural equipment, consumer goods, components for scientific, biological and electronic industries, foods, beverages, automotive parts, products for rail use, and manufacturing components.
